When Daniel Pickering made this 1813 landmark his family homestead, Wolfeboro knew it as The Yellow House. Today, after a meticulous two-year renovation, it stands as Pickering House, a luxury boutique hotel recognized on the National Register of Historic Places and located in the heart of downtown Wolfeboro, a short stroll from the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee.

We believe a historic property should never ask its guests to sacrifice comfort. Each of our ten spacious guest suites has its own distinct personality and surprising touches, with luxury bathrooms featuring heated tile floors, electronic shower controls and hardwired makeup mirrors. Top-of-the-line mattresses and linens, individually controlled heat and air conditioning, flat screen smart TVs, complimentary WiFi and state-of-the-art soundproofing ensure every suite remains a quiet haven even as downtown Wolfeboro bustles right outside our front door.

Mornings begin with a gourmet breakfast served in The Barn and included with your stay, while refreshment stations throughout the house offer beverages and snacks morning and afternoon. Next door, Samuel Avery's Tavern serves seasonally inspired, made-from-scratch cuisine under the direction of Chef Brian, pairing the warm hospitality of a tavern with a refined dining experience.

The Barn itself tells the same story of old meeting new. A rare example of a 19th century barn set in the heart of town, it blends antique charm with a built-in bar, air conditioning, heating, a heated brick entry ramp for cold weather events and interior ADA compliant bathrooms, accommodating up to 150 guests for weddings, executive retreats, family reunions and special gatherings.

Beyond our wraparound porch, Wolfeboro is known as America's Oldest Summer Resort, and things to do range from boating and hiking to museums, downtown shops and free concerts at Cate Park. Our staff specializes in adventure planning, reaching out before your stay to suggest custom itineraries and assist with reservations. Guests can also arrange special touches such as fresh flowers, a bottle of our exclusive PAVILION Pinot Noir or a celebration cake from a beloved local bakery.

This balance of past and present has earned national recognition, including Travel + Leisure World's Best Awards honors for New England, the United States and the World for three consecutive years, along with a place among the top hotels in New England from the readers of Condé Nast Traveler. We look forward to welcoming you to 116 South Main Street and sharing the Pickering experience.
