Fun Things to Do in Wolfeboro in December

The busy holiday season has had us hopping, so we’re a little late in providing some ideas for December things to do in and around Wolfeboro. Quite a few holiday fairs and festivals took place late November or the first few days in December, but the next few weeks are just as lively! Here are five activities that we have circled on our calendars:

Tuba Christmas:
Hear your favorite Christmas tunes performed by tubas! Tuba Christmas is an international event that celebrates tuba player William J. Bell, who was born on Christmas in 1902. There are only five Tuba Christmas performances in New Hampshire and Wolfeboro is home to one of them! The performance will be held on December 8th at 2:00 pm at All Saint’s Episcopal Church, just down the street from Pickering House Inn at 258 S. Main Street, Wolfeboro. For more information about Tuba Christmas, please visit www.tubachristmas.com

2018 Wolfeboro Festival of Trees:
The 20th Wolfeboro Festival of Trees is being held at the Wright Museum, 77 Center St., Wolfeboro, on December 8,9,12,15, and 16. The Festival of Trees is an annual charity benefit featuring more than sixty five trees, uniquely decorated by area businesses and organizations, and displayed on two levels. In addition to the trees, the exhibit features entertainment and light refreshments. For hours and details, please visit: www.wolfeborofestivaloftrees.com

Castle in the Clouds:
The Castle itself is closed for the season, but the Carriage House restaurant is still open every weekend. Spend a few hours doing some winter hiking around the property and then stop in for a Saturday lunch, Sunday brunch, or the Friday dinner and music nights. Pickering House Inn is proud to be a sponsor of the Winter Solstice Hike on December 21st from 5:00-7:00. Dress warmly and bring a headlamp or flashlight! The Trail will be marked withl lighted mason jars but a little extra illumination might come in handy. Hiking with the glow from the mason jars should be magical! Live Theater at The Village Players:
The Village Players — Wolfeboro’s own non-profit community theater — is putting on a delightful holiday comedy called “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” on December 14 and 15 at 7:30 pm and December 16 at 2:00 pm. If you are staying at Pickering House Inn, we would be pleased to get you tickets. Otherwise, they may be purchased online or at Black’s Paper and Gifts on Main Street in Wolfeboro. Victorian Christmas at the NH Farm Museum:
NH Farm Museum consists of two adjoining farmsteads situated on 50 acres located on Plummer’s Ridge in Milton, New Hampshire. The  historic Jones Farm and the Plummer Homestead date to the late 18th  century and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  On Saturday, December 15th from 10 am to 3 pm, you can tour the beautifully decorated  Jones Farmhouse with costumed role players and experience the wonder of a Victorian Christmas.
