Fun Events in the Wolfeboro NH Area: January 2019

January usually finds us cross country skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing, skating and otherwise embracing winter in New Hampshire’s Lakes Region. This winter started off a little differently with some unseasonably warm temps and just a dusting of snow, but the cold weather has returned! We’re excited to get outside and strap on some skiis or skates. In the meantime, here are a  few January events in the Wolfeboro area that we have highlighted on our calendar:

Winter Starlight Hike/Snowshoe – Castle in the Clouds
Saturday, January 19, 2019
5:00-7:00 pm

Pickering House Inn is proud to be a co-sponsor of a magical nighttime winter hike/snowshoe on the Shannon Pond Trail through the woods at Castle in the Clouds in nearby Moultonborough. The event, which is hosted in partnership with the Moultonborough Recreation Department, features luminaries along the trail and a fire pit with complimentary beverages and treats!

Carriage House Music Nights, Weekend Lunches, Sunday Brunch – Castle in the Clouds
The Castle itself is closed for the season, but the Carriage House restaurant is still open every weekend. Spend a few hours doing some winter hiking around the property and then stop in for a Saturday lunch, Sunday brunch, or the Friday dinner and music nights.

Ice Fest Craft Beer Festival – 19 Mile Bay, Lake Winnipesaukee

12:00-3:00 pm
21+ only

Both you and the beer will be on ice! This is the third annual Ice Fest sponsored by Wolfeboro’s Beveridge Craft Beer & Soap Company on the ice on frozen 19 Mile Bay (about a 15 minute drive from Pickering House Inn). Wear warm clothing and grips on your shoes are recommended!

Moose Mountains RunAround Snowshoe Race – Abenaki Ski Area
Saturday, January 26, 2019
9 am – 10 pm

Race on snowshoes before heading over to the Ice Fest Craft Beer Festival! Wear your own snowshoes (must meet USSSA minimum size specifications of 120 square inches) or rent Dion snowshoes for $5,00 per pair if reserved in advance (contact Race Director Dan Coons at 603-520-8533 or trailrnr@yahoo.com). The course is a scenic four-mile loop over single track, open fields and ski trails. Snowshoe walkers are welcome to register and participate as well.
