Our friend Maggie Stier at the New Hampshire Preservation Alliance sent us a very kind email letting us know that we may have been a little misleading in our last blog post. We wrote that we had decided not to pursue a listing on the National Historic Register, but that wasn’t quite accurate. As Maggie pointed out, we were considering the federal historic preservation income tax credit, which is a credit available only to National Register-listed properties. Qualifying for the credits is complicated and comes with some significant requirements; qualifying to be listed on the National Historic Register is a much more straightforward process.
We have decided not to pursue the historic preservation income tax credit but will in all likelihood still eventually apply for a listing on the historic register. Thank you, Maggie, for your clarification!
