Rachel Ng, a writer for the American Automobile Association (AAA) magazine, wrote about her experience staying with us in the July/August 2019 issue of Northern New England Journey. In her “Checking In” column, Rachel wrote:
In the charming town of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, the community rallied behind local residents Peter and Patty Cooke when the couple rescued the vacant 1813 residence of prominent entrepreneur Daniel Pickering from being torn down after years of vacancy. “We weren’t sure what we would do with the property when we bought it,” Patty says. “Our goal was simply to save a historic property that added to the character of the town.” They eventually decided on a 10-room luxury bed-and-breakfast that “feels as if you are staying at a friend’s really fabulous home, a place that feels relaxed and social with spacious guest rooms and private nooks when you want time to yourself.” Inside the handsome, yellow, Greek Revival building, thoughtful design elements include remote-control blinds, heated bathroom floors, and cozy fireplaces. Along the staircase, doors original to the building were repurposed and pieced together to form striking wall art. “Here in the Granite State, we tend to value the old and well-loved as much as, or more than, the shiny and new,”Patty says. “We wanted a design and finish that includes many modern conveniences in a beloved historic structure.”
We were so glad that Rachel could come from California to stay with us and are honored that she featured us in the AAA magazine!
